Nestled in the Yucatan Peninsula, just 45 minutes from the city of Mérida, surrounded by henequen fields and lush vegetation, is Sotuta de Peón Hacienda Viva.

Built in the mid-19th century, it began operating in 1858 and after 100 years of prosperity, resulting from its original henequen vocation, it was abandoned for three long decades, to later be rescued from the ravages of time and become a loving project of restoration that, through years of unwavering dedication, perseverance and passion for details, gave life to the current Sotuta de Peón Hacienda Viva, completely restored, functioning as it did in its time of splendor and rescuing the traditions of the boom times henequenero.

Hacienda Sotuta de Peón offers you a wide range of cultural, historical, tourist, gastronomic and lodging experiences in natural landscapes that will remain engraved in your minds and hearts for a long time.

Due to its privileged geographical location, it is the ideal place to explore other places in Yucatan: majestic archaeological zones, cenotes, convents, churches, beaches, magical towns. Likewise, it is perfect for visitors who reside in metropolises and seek to completely disconnect from the city chaos and completely surrender to good living, within a beautiful, natural environment, and with spacious and safe spaces.

New paragraph

When walking through Sotuta de Peón, our visitors literally travel in time, transported on wooden platforms called "Truks" which are pulled by “mules” on Decauville rails, just as the workers originally used them.

On our henequen tours, you will be able to witness each step of the transformation process of Henequen (also called “Green Gold” in this region), from plant to fiber, and from fiber to finished product. You will also have the opportunity to see antique machinery that has been rescued from the ravages of time and rebuilt to its precise operational capacity. Your tour will also include a visit to a typical Mayan House.

And add to this the unparalleled geological formations of our secret attractions, the cenotes, beautiful rivers with crystalline and alkaline waters, highly coveted. Take a moment to take a refreshing dip at the end of your walk, where you can swim safely in the refreshing waters of the Cenote. Or, if you prefer, we have a huge swimming pool, surrounded by lush gardens of tropical flowers and spectacular green native trees and plants.

Welcome to Hacienda Sotuta de Peón!
